Do you need to control static electricity in explosive or electrostatic sensitive environments?

Antistatic floors are a crucial element for the safe operation of explosive environments. Areas that handle powder, solvents and flammable materials often require antistatic floors. The relevant flooring systems are tested in to standards including EN1081 and EN61340

How much wear resistance do you need?

When considering wear resistance we also consider maintenance of slip resistance for safe use over the life of the floor. In the food industry many floors are wet and if subject to high traffic with forklifts and/ or hard wheels they need to have a slip resistant surface made from high performance aggregates. This ensures the floor will resist the loading, sheer and potential wear in addition to providing a safe working environment.

How much impact resistance do you need?

You should consider how many times during normal use the surface of the floor will be impacted by the process or falling object. Heavy point impacts, for example, dropping a steel cleaning hose from waist height, can cause damage to concrete. The higher the impact potential and frequency the thicker the floor should be in order to protect the concrete.

What temperature resistance do you need?

You should consider both high and low temperatures. Small spillages do not need to be considered. However, large discharges of hot water/ steam or blast chilling/ freezing need to be allowed for in floor selection. Generally the bigger the change in temperature that the floor is subject to the thicker it will need to be.

What level of slip resistance do you require?

Floors are rated according to DIN 51130 Ramp Test (R value) and EN13036 Pendulum Test (PTV = Pendulum Test Value wet floor). The higher R and PTV values the more textured the floor surface will be. Typically an R10 floor is suitable for a dry and occasionally wet area, an R11 floor is suitable for a wet area, and R12 or R13 floor is suitable for a wet and greasy area.

Do you need a colour stable flooring solution?

If highly aesthetic industrial floors are required then they need to resist colour change from ultraviolet light and posses enhanced stain resistance from common chemicals such as sodium hydroxide and nitric acid.

Chemical Resistance
